Alexander Barrie, MRSS;RCST; UK. tel/fax: 020 8423 5659 Treatments in Harrow, Nth. West London. Registered Shiatsu Practitioner;Registered Cranio-sacral Therapist;Teaching Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga; Back-pain Consultant; Complementary/Alternative Medical Advisor. Born North/West London England in the Twentieth Century, I was not given to any particular talent, and if anything was backward in learning, except, that I experienced between the ages of 3 to 9 an interior and gentle guiding voice which steered me through a rather pedestrian and a difficult childhood. Suddenly, I woke-up at around the age of 17 and from thenceforth began to study with alacrity to make-up for the barren early years, caused by my limited ability to learn, non robust health, and absence of proper encouragement. Many who read this will identify with some or all of the details outlined above-indeed it could all be accompanied by the strains of a violin playing a mournful dirge. It 'aint all bad. The energy generated by these early difficulties spurred me on to achieve particular goals very successfully in a number of different ways as the passage of my life gained momentum. After all, I chose this particular incarnation to know: Who I really am! In recent years, I have realised I have been blessed with the creative and inventive spark which all individuals aspire to possess. These developments have been mainly in the direction of the practice of medicine and also in writing of music composition. The application of specific techniques in alternative medicine led me to the creation of the flourishing Pelvic Correction System and to the writing of a book in the form of a self help manual for the layman and the professional.
Alexander Barrie is a registered Shiatsu practitioner (accupressure) and registered Cranio-Sacral therapist (similar to cranial osteopathy). A qualified teacher of Hatha Yoga and founder of the system explained below. The Alexander Barrie System of Pelvic Correction This system is presented as an adjunct to existing therapeutic disciplines, thus equipping the practitioner and to some extent the layman with the knowledge and skill to help man and woman be free of unnecessary back, shoulder, neck, knee and ankle pain and many sports injuries, by maintaining and stabilizing the human pelvis, which as the foundation of the skeletal frame, when not aligned absolutely, is in most cases the cause of osteopathic pathologies as well as spinal deterioration and spinal maladies.
Sports Injuries can cause pelvic misalignment & this leads to: back stiffness:lower, middle and upper: frozen shoulder: golf/tennis elbow: hip & sciatic pain extending into thigh: coccyx distress: pubic bone pain: aggravated knee problems: sprained ankle: planter foot pain (underneath foot).
The ideas I introduce exist as a result of previously pursuing three lines of direction:-
1. Observation
2. Empirical work on myself and others
3. Correction / SolutionObservation:
Through the years it became apparent to me that people suffer greatly with musculo-skeletal problems, which, as a practitioner of a number of medical skills, I could deal with and bring some relief to most people, but usually only temporarily.Curing was always an option uppermost in my mind and heart.
I began to to perceive that the various musculo-skeletal conditions anywhere around the body were nine out of ten times, symptoms of a dysfunctional pelvis and not problems that were disparate.
Empirical work on myself and others:
I observed when diagnosing lumbago, osteoarthritis, spinal maladies, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, RSI wrist complaints, plantar foot pain and other conditions mentioned in the above definition, that leg length discrepancy and pelvic distortion were prevalent without exception absolutely. The discovery that nine out of every ten people have, in varying degrees these debilitating conditions led me to conclude that two of the most dominant pelvic lesions were:
1. Pelvic torsion of one wing (ilium) back/front causing the leg to be shorter than its partner leg. "twist"
2. Pelvic side to side tilt causing the leg to be longer than its partner leg. "drop"
These equal subluxation / dysfunction of pelvis.
When pelvic correction was performed, leg length equalised, tension in the spine eased and elsewhere.
The pelvis is the foundation of the skeletal frame so that when subluxation/dysfunction occurs (so very common) an immense strain is placed on the spinal segments especially lumbar. The problem is the instability of the lumbar/sacral components causing the pelvis to dislocate and the vertebrae, which sit above the sacrum, to turn and twist engendering all the spinal pathologies which plague mankind. Please read-on.
Correction:
Through several years experimenting with particular techniques, some invented, some discovered, and some existing methods as in Muscle Energy Techniques, and Japanese Sotai which I have adapted successfully to re-align the pelvis. These techniques do not require the percussive actions of the Chiropractor or the thrusting methods of Osteopaths.Importantly, the patient can be taught these methods which take a few minutes a day, and thus 50% of the work to gain pelvic stability is passed back to the back-pain sufferer (or any of the other problems already mentioned) and he / she is re-empowered and more in control. The practitioner takes charge of the remaining 50% to help gain pelvic stability in whichever discipline he / she practices.
